The hinterher bicycle trailer: Variable mounting options for all loads

Due to the low edge of the container, all kinds of boxes and packing bags can be strapped quickly and securely. Since a lot of gear is extra long, you need the option of being able to fasten even these types of transports in a few simple steps.. That’s why we developed the unique tub-form, which offers a simple and secure solution for almost all transport needs.

Side boards, open or closed boxes, collapsible boxes, vegetable crates etc. can be retrofitted, screwed or strapped on without a problem.

The low edge of the container allows the most versatile options of attaching. All types of boxes can be instantly and securely fitted. Packing bags and other flexible materials are also not a problem.

The hinterher bicycle trailer: Background + Ideas

The idea behind the hinterher trailer

As transport is a part of our everyday life: Get on your bicycle and take everything you want! And since it is getting more and more cramped in the cities, we need transport solutions that allow us to do everything but don’t take up space, that look good as well as being fun. That is how we came up with hinterher!

Bicycle trailer hinterher: Design + Versatility

After extensive research and field-tests, we have developed an ideal and versatile chassis-form. This form enables almost all transportation tasks to be solved easily, safely and elegantly. Most things are transported in crates, and, more infrequently, with fixed side panels. The low edge of our aluminium trays permits the quick and secure fastening of boxes and transport material of all types, yet provides little air resistance when pulled unloaded. Crates can be loaded in or simply lifted out and are strapped fast against slipping and falling. At the same time, the trailer is as small and lightweight as possible and as large as necessary. If required, the board walls can also be retrofitted.

Quality + Price

The hinterher bike trailer was developed by and for professionals. That is why we are committed to delivering the highest quality. Not only in terms of manufacturing and materials, but in terms of design and functionality as well.

The focus was less on the travel trailer, which is built in an ultra-light manner, but much more on making it a day-to-day tool for handling (almost) all transport tasks. The use of high quality materials and manufacturing processes does have its price, but you can also feel and see it. The virtually indestructible, beautifully-crafted stainless steel chassis, which is meticulously powder-coated, withstands almost all retrofitting and add-on construction work.

All components are of extremely high quality and are well thought-out, are available separately and can be easily replaced. Therefore our weight specifications for payload etc. are due more to the braking capabilities of the bicycle as well as for steadiness, in the case of very heavy, very high or generally improper loading — our trailer can, in extreme cases, support significantly more than the specified kilos.

You can purchase your hinterher bicycle trailer from qualified retailers or directly from our online shop.

Branding and colours

By now you will have noticed that this project means a lot to us, how much thought has gone into the development of all aspects of the hinterher and how little we have acted on “economic” or “commercial” criteria. But it was and is important to us, that we have a product that represents the diversity and liveliness of its applications.

The focus here was not on the appearance, but the quality of the "tool" and the representation of the diversity of urban life. Colourful and fun designs offer a new look in load transport and make you want to leave the car at home.

The sophisticated colour scheme is an essential part of the appearance and also allows for special colour-coordinated trailer combinations for companies. This trailer makes a positive impact on your surroundings by conveying a clear attitude to life  — not by pointing your finger, but just through a friendly and convincing appearance, e.g. a cycling tradesman.

Transport in the city

Transporting heavy and bulky things with ease — that was our idea. We live and enjoy working in the city; we love the benefits and want to actively contribute to making the city more liveable. We like to ride bicycles — even for work — and we experience every day how much more superior bicycles are to all other types of transport in the city.

Bicycle transportation with style

For us, this means not only carrying things from A to B. Transport by bicycle saves money and time, keeps us fit and allows us to participate actively in city life. Transport is a part of our daily routine, whether as a family, a tradesperson, for sport or for leisure...

At Hinterher, we want to make everyday life easier, we want to make a high-quality product that we ourselves enjoy using and that works. That’s why the Hinterher is manufactured in uncompromisingly high quality and is being continually developed, using regional companies and short supply routes.

And because the bicycle trailer is made so lovingly and beautifully, you will, firstly, absolutely want to have it and secondly, you will take good care of it, so that, thirdly, it will remain in good condition as long as possible. This is sustainability at its best.

Why a bicycle trailer?

Load-carrying bikes are cumbersome and expensive; when you don’t need them, they just get in the way. And where do you park them?

With a large, inflexible trailer you have the same problem — what do you do with the gear, when you don't need it?

When you’re travelling — for camping, work or shopping — your hinterher fits into any car boot, roof box, hallway, basement or attic...

Why the hinterher bicycle trailer?

Your biketrailer hinterher combines the three most important transport options in a single device: Bicycle trailer, handcartand trolley.

In just a few clicks, the bike trailer transforms into a push cart, that continues to assist where the bicycle can’t. A few more clicks and the hinterher can be pulled up the stairs as a trolley.

All important transport options are always at hand, cleverly integrated and with a timelessly elegant design.

In other words: The trailer is loaded and driven up to the entrance of the house, decoupled from the bicycle using the hand cart's handle or taken into the building as a loaded hand cart — and all this without having to unload and load your gear again. The hinterher bike trailer fits through any door, into the elevator, from the supermarket checkout to home.

Transporting extra-long loads

A lot of gear has excess length. This is not a problem for the hinterher. Long loads can be laid easily and safely on the low edge of the container and strapped securely, without the centre of gravity moving too far up. We also have tow bar extensions for extra-long cargo.

The sleek design also allows the smallest possible pack size with the greatest possible stability!

Shaping + Design

One of the reasons we began developing this bicycle trailer: There was simply not a single trailer that met our demands for functionality, quality and design. So, one thing led to another, and in the end we had a smart, extremely versatile and artistically very distinct trailer — which caught on so well, we decided to go into mass production.

Form follows function — ultimately we have rethought and improved all details of our bicycle trailer, have developed our own tools for it and even applied for patents for many of our inventions. The overwhelmingly positive feedback of experts and our customers confirms our belief. It is really is worthwhile to produce good quality in one's own country.

MADE IN MUNICH

As a company from Munich and as inner city residents, we have developed and built this bicycle trailer almost exclusively with regional partners — and almost all components continue to come from the region.

The contribution to sustainability through the use of a bicycle trailer should not be spoiled by long transport routes and intransparent supply chains. That is why it is not a hollow advertising slogan, when we say: hinterher - MADE IN MUNICH!

Hinterher trailers are available for special order from dlb cycles today.

Guide to: which bicycle type should I buy?

Road bike vs. mountain bike vs. hybrid bike. The pros and cons of each

Picking the best bike to suit you can be a tricky task. Whether you want to get to work, get fit or just explore the countryside, the bicycle is the perfect tool to do that, but there are a confusingly huge — and growing — number of different types to choose from.

So if you are asking yourself "which bike should I buy?" then read on as we guide you through the styles of bike on offer today to help you find the best one for your needs.

  • Best road bike: how to choose the right one for you
  • Best mountain bike: the ultimate buyer's guide
  • Best hybrid bikes: a buyer's guide to find what you need

It’s important to have a think about what you want to do with your bike and where you’ll be going because the best bike for you totally depends on this. Whether you want to commute to work, get muddy thrills in the countryside or go on long road rides, there’s a bike that can do that.

Your choice of bike will depend on your own tastes, and the kind of distance and terrain you want to ride. There are many different types of cycling and a multitude of bikes that will let you achieve them.

Whether you’re an urban commuter, a lightning-quick road racer, an off-road trail blaster, downhill nutter, fixed-wheel fanatic, gravel path explorer or something else, there's a suitable bike out there for you.

Road bikes: best for riding fast on tarmac

As the name suggests, these bikes are all about riding on surfaced roads — often as fast as possible. They’ve got lightweight frames and skinny tyres designed to help you achieve maximum speed for minimum effort.

They have dropped handlebars that allow you to get into an efficient and aerodynamic riding position and gearing that’s all about maximum speed.

Under the guise of slightly more relaxed 'endurance' bikes, they'll let you embark on big-mile rides with friends, but also lend themselves very well to commuting thanks to their ability to cover ground quickly.

However, the speed-focused riding position can be uncomfortable for some riders and the lightweight wheels and tyres are susceptible to damage from kerbs and potholes.

Many dedicated road bikes, especially ones at the racier end of the spectrum, will also lack the ability to carry luggage — so if you need to lug a hefty load, a pure-bred road bike might not be ideal.

Pros: Quick, efficient and fun

Cons: Easier to damage, less comfortable for casual riders , popular with bike thieves

  • Best road bike: how to choose the right one for you

Mountain bikes: best for rough terrain

Made to take on the most rugged off-road terrain nature can offer, mountain bikes are built tough with aggressive knobbly tyres designed to find grip on almost any surface.

They also have powerful brakes that use motorcycle-style discs, and more expensive machines will have suspension at both ends for better control over rough ground. The gearing is designed to get you up and down steep terrain, with a wide range to take on the varying gradients.

Even if you don’t plan to tackle mountain ranges, mountain bikes can be a good choice for general leisure riding thanks to their more relaxed riding position, though you’ll want to change the knobbly tyres for some slicks otherwise it’ll be very hard work on tarmac.

While suspension is great for pure off-road riding, it means extra weight, costs more and can be inefficient, so it’s best avoided if you plan to spend most of your time on-road.

If you fancy heading into the back of beyond, pushing your limits and exploring the path less travelled, then check out our buyer’s guide to the best mountain bikes.

Pros: Great brakes, upright position, bombproof, versatile

Cons: Heavy, slow on tarmac, eye-catching to thieves

  • Best mountain bike: The ultimate buyer's guide

Hybrid bike: best for casual riders and short commutes

Halfway between a road bike and a mountain bike, a hybrid takes the comfy riding position of a mountain bike and pairs it with a lighter frame and fast rolling wheels more like those of a road bike.

They’re great if you need to cover on-road distance but don’t want to contort yourself into an uncomfortable riding position. Sitting in a more upright position may be less aerodynamically efficient but it also allows you to look further ahead, a huge boon in heavy urban traffic.

If you want to go quickly on good roads but you prefer a more upright position, or don’t get on with drop handlebars, this is the way to go. The only major downside, as mentioned above, with a flat-bar bike is that you’re not as aerodynamic as you are on a race bike and therefore you're not quite as quick.

Hybrid bikes often use more powerful disc brakes that give more consistent performance in wet weather, though at a slight weight penalty. They’re also equipped with plenty of mounts that allow you to carry more luggage, such as specialist pannier bags.

If you need to bridge the gap between urban performance and confident handling, then our guide to the best hybrid bikes will give you all the information you need to know.

Pros: Fairly quick, versatile, upright

Cons: Typically heavier than road bikes, and not as fast

  • Best hybrid bike: a buyer's guide to find what you need

Touring bike: best for carrying luggage and travelling far

While a hybrid bike is best suited to the city, a touring bike is designed to take on everything from a commute to a continent-crossing adventure. They tend to have the same fast rolling 700c wheels as road and hybrid bikes but with fatter tyres that allow you to take on a mixture of terrain in comfort.

The more relaxed riding position and more stable shape means that you can take on almost anything, whether it be a mountain pass when fully loaded with supplies or a quick spin to your job.

If you need a highly versatile all-rounder then you should take a look at our guide to the best touring bikes, whether you’re going to familiar places or the route less travelled.

Pros: Tough, lots of load-carrying capacity, still fairly quick

Cons: Not quite race-bike quick

  • Best touring bike: how to choose the right one for you

Cyclocross / gravel / adventure / all-road bikes: best if you're in a hurry on bad roads

Overlapping with the touring category, this type of bike is quickly becoming very popular and fashionable, and it's easy to see why — they combine road bike looks and speed with loads of frame clearance for fitting fat, knobbly tyres of 35mm or more that can get you across almost any terrain, including terrible tarmac, gloopy mud, bridleways, gravel paths and more.

You can find adventure bikes made from steel, aluminium, carbon and titanium, and at a range of prices from the affordable to the aspirational. Many will include eyelets for fitting mudguards and pannier racks, disc brakes (hydraulic if you're lucky) for better braking, and more relaxed geometry than a road bike to deliver better handling on a range of surfaces. They're also a great bet for road riding in winter, just fit some puncture-resistant tyres and you're good to go.

Full on cyclocross race bikes are similar in concept (fatter tyres, drop bars, discs in many cases), but they may not have fittings for mudguards or panniers. They'll also tend to offer a racier position.

Pros: Fast, comfortable, practical

Cons: Not much really. Attractive to thieves

  • Best gravel and adventure road bikes

Fixed gear / singlespeed bike: best if you hate maintenance

Popular with cycle messengers, and the only option if you're riding on a velodrome, the fixie is the ultimate in simplicity. A true fixie has no freewheel, so you always have to pedal if you’re moving. That brings an unprecedented degree of connection and control once you get used to it, but fixies are definitely not for beginners.

They’re lightning-fast in the hands of an accomplished rider and the lack of complexity means they require minimal maintenance. They're great for confident commuters that don’t mind suffering if they live in a hilly location and want total control at all times, but it’s a high level of commitment for the average cyclist.

Once you've got the hang of riding a fixie, they're among the best bikes for commuting. This is what makes them popular with cycle couriers, who also like their reliability — a legal-minimum fixie with just a front brake has almost nothing on it to go wrong.

Pros: Light, simple, quick

Cons: Some skill required, hard when it's hilly

  • For reviews of the latest fixed gear and singlespeed bikes, check out the 'urban' section of our Bikes & Gear browser.

City bike: best for hassle-free riding

A Dutch-style city or town bike (or 'sit-up-and-beg') does a sterling job of providing short-range transportation in flat towns. What’s appealing about this style of bike is its simplicity, practicality and robustness. There’s very little to go wrong if you’ve just got one gear, and hub gear versions with up to 11 gears are still pretty tough.

Typical town bikes have chainguards and flat pedals, so you can hop aboard in your regular clothes. Self powered dynamo lighting and a lock are often built in, so you won't need many extras.

They shrug off potholed streets, while an upright riding position gives you a commanding view of traffic. The main downside is that they tend to be quite heavy, and while the riding position is comfortable, it's not particularly efficient and you won't want to take on any big hills.

Pros: Great looks, relaxed riding position, practical, ideal for wearing normal clothes

Cons: Heavy and slow

  • For reviews of the latest town bikes, check out the 'urban' section of our Bikes & Gear browser.

Electric bike: best if you need a hand up the hills

With assistance from a powerful motor, electric or e-bikes are great if you're a commuter who needs to arrive at work in a less sweaty state, or if you’re less confident about your fitness.

Laws vary from country to country, but in the UK electric bikes are limited to 25km/h (15.5mph) and can be used on the road without a helmet or licence — they are bikes as far as the law is concerned, as you still need to pedal to activate the electric assistance (hence the term 'pedelec').

Most of them are designed to be comfortable and easy to live with thanks to flat bars, mudguards and luggage capacity. There’s a signficiant price and weight premium over an equivalent regular bike for the battery, motor and control electronics. However, as the technology develops, both prices and weights are coming down.

The world of electric mountain bikes — also known as e-MTBs — is also a rapidly expanding one, allowing riders who may have needed to swear off their dirt riding activities to keep enjoying the countryside for longer than they might have imagined. There are also a handful of drop-bar e-road bikes on the market, such as the Giant Road-E+, but this remains a fairly small niche.

Pros: Easy to ride, comfortable

Cons: Regular recharging, heavier and pricier than a regular bike

  • Best electric bike: how to choose the right one for you

Folding bikes: best if you're short on space

If you need to combine a bit of riding with urban portability, then there’s nothing better than a folding bike. They’re best suited to short rides — especially where storage space at either end is scarce — and their portability means they’re ideal when you might have to hop onto a train or a bus to get where you’re going.

That means that folding bikes are phenomenally popular among big-city commuters. The most compact ones will fit under your desk and they’re easy to carry as well. A folder won’t ride like a conventional bike because of the necessary compromises, but the best modern folders are surprisingly capable.

Pros: Massively convenient to store, can be snuck onto trains

Cons: Heavier and slower than a big-wheeled bike and not as stable or pothole-proof

  • Best folding bike: buyer's guide

Kids bikes: best for growing riders

The first thing to keep in mind is that children's needs vary wildly depending on their age and ability. Balance bikes are where it's at for the pre-school crowd, then by the time they progress to 16in wheels they'll (hopefully) be pedalling away without stabilisers before very long.

Move up a notch to 20in wheels and gears start to make an appearance, then by the time they're nine and riding 24in wheels, they'll basically be riding smaller versions of adult bikes — disc brakes, suspension and all.

PELAGO BICYCLES. Simple, strong and practical.

SERVE THE PURPOSE

Pelago is a bicycle company born out of local cyclists’ needs and demand for new bicycles for daily transport and alternative travel. The company contributes to cycling with functional, aesthetic and strong products. We are rooted in the Helsinki pavement, but approach cycling from greater context. It is a logic and positive option compared to other vehicles for urban trafic. Regardless of style and speed, the bike is a practical, economic and efficient method to experience the surroundings and move around in the urban environment.

The idea for Pelago developed during the last decade. Riding long kilometers in the city and out on the road has brought us where we are. We have taken part in bike development at the university, learned our lessons at a local service shop, dug out parts from junk yards, and fixed bikes for our friends. Yet there is still a lot to explore, and that keeps us motivated. Our aim is to make bicycles that you can be as proud of as we are – bikes that still ride in 2050 – bikes that serve the purpose.

HERE FOR GOOD

We believe in optimism. Sustainability is a common effort. It's not just what you buy – it's what you make. It's about what you do at work. Small things matter – and we want to contribute. Still, we try not to take bikes too seriously. Coming from a creative background, we look forward to enjoy the work and share the fun with others.

FIRMITAS UTILITAS VENUSTAS

Since the introduction of our first line of utility bicycles our catalog has expanded to bikes that shall take you further. Alternative travel is in the heart of our philosophy and we hope you find your preferred vehicle of personal transport among our selection.

The name Pelago is short from 'archipelago' which is one of the prettiest parts of our homeland Finland. The authencity of the islands and the nature has effected our way of thinking – and the northern background has signed its name on the goods we make. To cope the heat of the summer and the snow and sleet of the winter one must be well-prepared. We make goods that you can rely on. Simple, strong and practical. Where you take Pelago, it's up to you.

Urban Commuting?

Repetitive daily task involving stop and go traffic. Pollution. Quick decisions. Not enough time. If you use a car you will need about 1-1,5h of your day for one way trip of about 10-15km to get to work and from work. Standing still more then moving forward at any point. If you choose to experience the public transport you might find yourselves ram packed into a can being held up by all the others who decided to take the Taxis or their cars into bus lanes. Delivery drivers using them as parking spots or construction sites unloading their gear. If you have the option to travel by rail you might experience the unexpected half/one hour of no forward motion because some genius ran the barriers or struck the bridge you are going to pass over the traffic. Then there is cycling. With the right gear it can be a real eye opener. You are able to take back control of your own time. You can avoid all the downsides of road network. You get a real exercise of the list for the day and you come to work on time and home energized. Then maybe you want to do all of that but you also want to cut drastically the time you spend on the road.

Say Hi to Electric Bikes.

Electric Bikes for Urban Commuter.

Momentum Electric is renowned for pushing the envelope of ''bang for your buck'' as they say. They became synonymous with reliable affordable and powerful e-bikes. Like Model-T and now The new VIT-s.

Now earlier this summer a new refreshed UpStart came out and we got the chance to ride it and put it to test. We also have on in-store, so drop in any time to try it for yourselves!

momentum electric 2016 upstart

What is different?

PRICE: Massive reduction in costs offers a way better price point for customers. In Ireland you can get going for just €1399 on a fully loaded UpStart electric bike.

MATERIALS and EQUIPMENT: Everything was rethought. New aluminium frame is lighter and stiffer. Integrated alloy Mudguards are 100% effective in rain and on big puddles and custom made rack offers great versatility, you can carry standard panniers or strap in any thing or anybody (child seat). New integrated lighting system, back and front, is genuinely powerful and runs of the ebikes battery. Turns on with a press of a button, simple. The reliable SRAM Automatix shifts for you between 2 gears and is smoooth as a butter.  Even the battery was redesigned and new better casing with more water resistance and IP certification is in place.

How does the electric bike work?

Fold the kickstand (standard equip), hop on, press the ON button, and pedal away. That simple. For operation you have 2 brake levers and pedals. There is no shifting involved all is taken care of by the automatic 2 speed transmission. Even when you stop it shifts down for you. When you start again a patented torque sensor in the bottom bracket propels you forward even on the steepest hill start you can find in Dublin. So no more gear fiddling, or bike pushing up hills. It just goes when you want it to go. The quick reaction is massively beneficial against just standard pedelec systems where magnet sensor got to do about 2-3 full pedal rotations. It is bit surprising to other road users when you shoot out of the lights :D

The system has 3 buttons on its very small control panel. You can choose couple power settings, turn it on/off and activate the lights. Or If you are fully loaded, and going up to your door or just pushing the bike along there is a walk assist function (not a throttle) very convenient.

When you first get onto the UpStart it feels like sitting on a classy single speed. Striking matt black frame color and bit sporty-ish riding position are nice, comfortable and familiar. With its record low weight just shy of 19kg it is really the lightest ebike on market these days.

Your average commute will be flawless and smooth once getting used to the faster pace of the momentum electric UpStart. Funny enough we found out that loading it up with panniers and some additional equipment makes it even better, the added weight does eat off your range (which is huge) up to 80km! from one charge! but it adds suppleness and the motor likes to deal with it effortlessly. We easily averaged 50km out of one charge. The battery is easily recharged just like your phone, you can take it home or to the office, or just charge it on the bike If you have a garage.

Riding style

My usual route was going along the sea front from Dun Laoghaire to City center. Pretty flat with some medium hills here and there. It's roughly 13km one way. With the most powerful setting I was fast to reach the limited 25km/h so I experimented trying to push over the limit I managed to pedal it to roughly 39km/h but you do start to feel the added weight.

On other occasion I tried loading it up with over 50kg of goods. Mostly paper and some stands. I actually noticed interesting behavior the added weight allowed for smoother riding, easy acceleration and I wasn't as much noticing the top speed limiter. Where tho without any added weight. The front wheel easily popped a wheely and came to the limit fast. Which is unheard of normal electric bikes, they just weight too much. Either way at the end of each ride. You feel like you arrived with a grin on your face and slightly higher hearth beat but not tired. Far of it. Interestingly also my Strava acc showed I averaged 23km/h on each occasion. Try that in a car (or a hybrid/mtb/commuter bike)!

After getting the driving style in tune with the bike I noticed that keeping it in the ECO (lowest) setting is plentiful to get places comfortably and quickly, also it saves the battery and I can easily see 3 days worth of commuting on one charge. When you come to a hill that seems bit too steep just pop it to 2nd or higher assistance level and the UpStart pulls you up effortlessly. I cannot imagine easier electric bike to live with, its simple operation, light weight, powerful and advanced drive train make it perfect for urban commuting and even a weekend trip to Howth Summit.

UpStart is available at Greenaer and Dublin Loves Bikes (DLB) shops. Test rides are free and you can pop into store at any time, DLB Cycles is open 7 days a week.

Bullit VS 8Freight

Cargo bikes For shorter journeys, they’re a practical alternative to a car for kids or cargo. Cycle trainer Patrick Field tests an 8Freight and a Bullit (Updated: NOV'16)

classic.jpg
8freight-E8-1-Bike.jpg

Bicycles are ideal for personal transport but have limited carrying capacity. If you need to move bulky household supplies, building materials, or gardening tools, or want to transport children, there’s a point at which a bicycle becomes impractical. Adding a trailer works and is relatively cheap.

But for regular load-carrying, you can’t beat a cargo cycle.

These two cargo bikes are light and nimble enough to provide enjoyable, local transport, with the option of spontaneously transporting heavy, awkward loads. Drop off the kids on your way to work, pick-up a weekly shop on the way home, and still enjoy your commute. Both bikes have aluminium frames whose carrying capacity isn’t bolted on; it’s part of their structures. They’re not retro but modern: urban utility bikes, if you like, or ‘sports cargo’ bikes. Loading The first choice to make with a freight bike, and the most obvious difference between the 8Freight and the Bullitt, is the location of the load.

The 8Freight, designed by Mike Burrows, has been around for ten years, manufactured initially in small batches by the man himself. The current version, assessed here, is basically the same machine but mass-produced in Taiwan. Mike has lots of experience of long drivechains from building recumbents. He opts for a standard handlebar-and fork steering arrangement, puts the load behind the rider, and solves the problem of transmitting power to back wheel with a nylon pulley. This diverts the triple-length chain’s pulling run down under the load tray and stops the returning run from flapping.

The Bullitt, also manufactured in Taiwan, for Copenhagen-based Larry vs Harry, dates from 2008. It follows a classic ‘Long John’ pattern: the cargo deck sits ahead of the rider and a rod beneath links a steerer-tube turned by the handlebar to the fork.

The rider of an 8Freight has a conventional view forwards over the handlebar, which is directly connected by a steep head-tube to a BMX-size front wheel. It’s deftly manoeuvrable. The handlebar is the widest point, which helps when judging spaces. You just have to remember to line the bike up when turning into a narrow gap or the back wheel will cut the corner

8freight-HP-3-CarbonFibre.jpg
8freight-HP-5-Hank.jpg
8freight-HP-1-Standard.jpg 8freight-HP-2-Wicker.jpg 8freight-HP-3-CarbonFibre.jpg 8freight-HP-5-Hank.jpg

In contrast, the Bullitt’s pilot looks at the road ahead over a luggage deck. The less conventional relationship with the front wheel may take a little longer to get used to but is a strictly short-term problem. (As with any new two-wheeler, it's best to get a feel for how it behaves when riding along normally before trying slow speed manoeuvres.) Having the load in sight makes it a bit more secure. It’s easy to monitor how cargo is behaving over bumps and round corners. Carrying passengers is more sociable.

It’s harder to keep an eye on an 8Freight’s load but this potential problem is balanced by a more flexible capacity. A large integral carrier extends from the top of the load cage over the back wheel, enabling oversize items to be tied on, resting above and behind the luggage tray.

On the Bullitt, it’s less convenient to hang stuff over the front wheel, while anything really big can obstruct the rider’s view of the road ahead.

The standard 8Freight has a fabric lining hanging inside the luggage cage. A wicker basket, strong box or courier box are optional extras.

The Bullitt’s basic setting is a flat-bed deck. There's an extensive range of in-house options, such as folding seats, plastic canopies, and lockable boxes

Components

The wheels of the 8Freight are mounted on one side only: the front on a stub axle, the rear on an axle that rotates like a bottombracket inside the frame. The hub and wheel are on the left end of this axle, while the freehub and cassette are on the right end, on the opposite side of the frame. Non rotating elements of the front and rear drum-brake hubs are part of the frame, so there’s no need for torque arms to brace them. The cantilevered wheels, characteristic of Burrows designs, enable punctured tubes to be changed with the wheels in place. This encourages the use of lighter, suppler tyres. (OR can be upgraded by using Tannus Solid Tyre) The design is simple and elegant and you can change to different ratio cassettes, smaller/bigger chainrings, different rear derailleurs or even electric mid drive pedelec systems.

The Bullitt’s frame takes generic components. The drop-outs bolt on and can be specified for hub gear, derailleur or single-speed options. The standard front fork means that – unlike the 8Freight – a generator hub is an option (You can upgrade to dynamo system with different fork). The Bullitt frame can also be fitted with an electric assist as 8Freight can too.

tech spec bullit.png

Around town

Neither bike is wider than a two-wheel solo. In moving traffic, there’s no extra delay caused by their shape. Filtering through static, queuing motor-traffic can be slightly more troublesome, due to the extra length.

On the 8Freight you need to be aware that drivers may read your presence as a solobike rider, not noticing the elongated back end. Position yourself accordingly. But with 8Freight you can see around a blind corner or when cutting through stationary traffic way sooner than on a Bullit just as on a normal bike.

On the Bullitt, you have to deal with the problem of extra length ahead, particularly when emerging from entrances and side roads. In practice, both machines capture the attention of other road users due to their novelty.

Their larger presence makes sharing space with motor-traffic even safer than when riding a normal bicycle. A bicycle obviously can’t match the capacity or maximum speed of a van but access and parking are always easier. Both machines will go through a standard doorway and can often be wheeled to the exact spot their load is required. Both bikes have double-leg prop-stands the width of the tray.

The Bullitt’s is deployed simply with a foot, locks by gravity, and is released by running the bike forwards; it retracts with a steel spring. The hydraulic disc brakes don’t allow for a parking brake so it’s wise to carry a toe-strap in hilly areas.

The 8Freight’s stand goes down automatically, powered by a gas-strut, once released by a lever on the handlebars. Its cable-operated drums incorporate a lockable brake lever, which functions as a parking brake which is great advantage when loading/unloading on slopes.

Conclusion

The 8Freight is cheaper, lighter and handles better than the Bullitt. Its radical design is elegant and doesn't limit your options for upgrades and alterations. The Bullitt is less particular its frame is versatile, with the potential to satisfy a wide range of functions. If you have the capital and storage, however, you’re unlikely to regret buying either.

DOUZE Cycles - Cargo Bikes For All

Concept

After a first version of Messenger and Traveller models DOUZE Cycles launches a new generation of cargobikes splittable for three main reasons:

ON THE PATH OF LIFE, WE DO NOT ALWAYS NEED THE SAME BIKE

The day comes when you have to drive your children toschool, that when you decide to learn the cello, or it is a passion for a sport that equipment takes up space …

IN SAME DAYOUR MOBILITY RHYMES WITH MODULARITY

Our business, how we work, our relationship to time have changed under the sign of flexibility and mobility. This trend leads us to rethink the way we move.

A CARGOBIKE SHOULD BE EASY TO PARK AND MUST RIDE AS A CLASSIC BICYCLE

It would be a shame to lose the comfort and practicality of a cargobike pretext that it does not fit in your garage, in your car trunk or on a bike rack when you want to take on holiday …

DEMA New To Irish Market w world class machinery!

ABOUT DEMA

In DEMA company, we always try to be one step ahead.
That´s the reason for the ceaseless improvement of
our bicycles, either technical or visual. In the process of
development, we focus not only on the design of the bicycle
and the quality of its components, but also on the functionality
and, moreover, the safety of the bicycle. By our wide range
of bicycles, we strive to satisfy the needs of all performance
categories and age groups – from professional riders to the
youngest bikers. We use the most innovative processes and
the most quality materials in our development process. We also
carefully consider the selection of components and their influence
on the functionality of the bicycle.

The quality of our bicycles is recognized and awarded abroad. We have
received several awards, such as The Design of the Year (RAVENA 3.0)
or The Bike of the Year (SCALEO 9.0). Nowadays, DEMA bicycles are sold
in more than 15 foreign markets. In addition, we have been awarded Slovak
Superbrands Award 3 times, on the basis of the Brand Council decision and
the preference of Slovak consumers.

The numbers of the bicycles made by our company have been rising year after
year, which is the proof of our brand´s rising popularity. Production of 45.000
bicycles has been planned for 2016 season. All working procedures from initial
inspection, production and interoperating processes, final inspection, up to
shipping, are carried out in accordance with ISO 9001 norms.
Our company has received a prestigious prize Best Service Center 2014 at the
FSA distributors´ meeting in Busnag. By this, excellent work of our employees was
awarded in the fields from communication with customers up to the service for FSA.

DEMA RACING TEAM

DEMA Racing Team has been one of the most successful
Slovak cycling teams for a long time. The DRT racers
always set challenging goals which they manage to achieve.
Lots of winnings and prizes are the evidence of their success.
Therefore the members of DRT are the ones who can verify
riding properties, accuracy in construction and functionality
of our bicycles in demanding conditions. Their feedback is very
important for the subsequent quality improvement of DEMA
bicycles.

In 2015 season, DEMA Racing Team riders were really successful.
As for the most important, these were:

  • At Slovakia Championship´s time trial idividuals, Daniel Pápež finished 2nd in Masters A category. Boris Horváth was 3rd in the same category.
  • At Slovak Cup - CrossCountry, Barbora Svrčková won in the Junior category. Jaroslav Štvrtecký came 3rd in Masters A category and Václav Bureš was 3rd in Masters category.
  • Kristína Koscová was 2nd in Masters W2 category in Sellaronda Hero in Italy (60 km track with height difference of 3400 m).

DEMA Technology

  • Carbon Frames

At present, you can find carbon frames used not only in the top-level models but also in the more affordable bicycles. All frames are made using the Tube2Tube technology,
from high quality, trademark carbon materials from the Japanese Toray Company. The main frame triangle is made of high strength material to ensure optimum balance
between firmness and flexibility. Chain and saddle stays are made of more flexible carbon fibers, specifically for the better absorption of vibrations transferred to the frame
from the rear wheel. Thanks to this, DEMA carbon frames are not only firm and hard but also comfortable. One of the many advantages of carbon frames is the fact that they
offer lower weight and significantly higher strength than frames made from aluminum alloys (3000 to 7000 Mpa).

  • Alloy AL-6061

An aluminum alloy containing Mg2S silicides as its main
additive is also referred to as Alloy 6061. Class 6000 alloys
are highly workable, weldable, and machinable, which is why
they are often used in the manufacture of bicycle frames.
Thanks to their tensile strength and resulting workability,
tubes made from this alloy are often used in hydroforming
processing. The 6061 aluminum alloy reaches a tensile
strength of 325 MPa and density of 2.70 g/cm3.

  • Cr-Mo Steel

Cr-Mo is steel alloyed with chrome and molybdenum.
Alloying elements in steel provide increased strength at a
lower weight. Chrome also adds anticorrosive properties
to the mix. Frames made from this material are strong,
durable, and relatively light.
Hi-Ten Steel
Hi-Ten acronym stands for High Tensile Steel. Hi-Ten frames
are just as strong and durable as Cr-Mo frames but
noticeably heavier.

  • DEMA Custom Tube

We do not use any standardized sets of tubes for DEMA
frames; rather, we adjust tubes (shape and thickness of
walls) to the specific frame based on strength analyses and
the projected design of the entire bicycle.

  • Double butted Tubes

The main advantage of tubes with narrowed walls (butted
tubes) as compared to traditional tubes, is their lower
weight while, at the same time, still sporting very similar,
almost identical qualities as traditional tubes. Narrowed
tubes usually have thicker walls at their ends, at welds,
and thinner walls in the central, less strained portion. This
type of tube comes with two different wall thickness sizes
(Double Butted, e.g. wall thickness of 1.0 - 0.8 – 1.0 mm).

  • Heat Treatment

Frames from the 6061 group of aluminum alloys often bear
the supplementary designation T6. In the area of the weld,
the frame is weakened down to level T0. The lost strength
and mechanical properties are restored thanks to heat
treatment, by heating the weld to 130°C for several hours.
After completion of this production process, the strength
of the frame in the welded area is once again T6.

  • Hydroforming Tubes

Aluminum alloy tubes shaped by hydroforming technology
are formed by the pressure of heated oil. A basic tube
is inserted into a mold through which oil is pumped. The
pressure of heated oil forms the tube to the shape of the
mold. This tube shaping technology is a production process
involving more than 10 operations. Hydroforming tubes are
usually used on the frame, in place of upper or lower frame
tubes. With some frames, a hydroforming shaped tube is
used in place of the saddle tube (especially in the case of
road bicycles).

  • Biaxial Tube Profil

Use of lower frame tubes with biaxial profile – with vertical
dilation in the area where the tube connects to the head
tube and horizontal dilation in the area where the tube
connects to the central connecting piece – ensures
significant increase in firmness in those parts of the main
frame triangle that experience the greatest strain.

  • Tube to tube

In frames using this technology, each and every tube is made
individually, shortened to the length required for the size of
the frame, and connected by carbon fiber, thus providing
the advantage of a direct, uninterrupted connection.
Another advantage of the Tube2Tube technology is weight
optimization – observing technological methods, each tube
can be made with a different layer count, thus allowing the
manufacturer to reach the desired frame weight.

  • Smooth Inner Surface

This technology provides perfectly smooth inner tube
surfaces void of redundant connecting materials, thus
optimizing required tube properties and decreasing the
weight of individual tubes as well as that of the entire frame.

  • Tapered Head Tube

Tapered head tubes are designed to work with tapered
handle bars, with the steerer designed to be used with a 1.5”
headset at the bottom and 1 1/8” at the top. The primary
advantages of a tapered headtube are to allow for the
greater bearing surface and firmness of a 1.5” steerer and
lower bearing surface while reducing weight and allowing
the use of conventional 1 1/8” threadless stems. More
girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes
shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset. Also
it allows a stronger steering position and improved balance,
giving the rider more control in rough terrain.

  • Inner Cable Routing

Bicycles with inner cable routing are more elegant
because cabling does not interfere with the silhouette of
the frame. But esthetic reasons were not the only ones
to lead designers to this technological solution. Cabling
is protected from dirt this way and thus provides more
reliable functionality, especially in muddy conditions.

  • Carbon Fiber Dropouts

All DEMA carbon frames use carbon frame endings, which
not only ensure a better connection between chain stays
and saddle stays but also weigh less in comparison to
duralumin endings used mainly in cheap carbon frames.

  • High Performance Chainstays

Increased efficiency in the transfer of energy to the rear
wheel is referred to as HP-C. This technology has been
incorporated into the elaborate rear construction of all
DEMA carbon frames.

  • Comfortable Seat Stays

This description stands for functionally shaped rear seat
stays made of aluminum alloy which – thanks to their “S”
shape – more efficiently absorb and distribute vibrations
transferred to the frame and caused by minor unevenness
in the terrain and thus improve the comfort of the bicycle.

  • Excentric Chain Stays

The technology of eccentrically shaped chain stays is used
in full-suspension DEMA frames in which the right chain
stay is placed lower than the left one. This technological
solution has been implemented to increase the chain space
and minimize contact between the chain and the chain stay
during the movement of the rear construction while riding
in terrain.

  • Simple Single Pivot Design

Simple single pivot design attaches the swingarm to the
shock via additional linkage actuating the shock to create a
more progressive leverage ratio between wheel travel and
shock absorber travel. The rear axle is held by a swingarm
which is connected to the frame via a single pivot located
near the bottom bracket. When the suspension moves
through its travel, the path the rear axle describes is a circle
around the pivot point. The advantage of this design is its
simplicity, easy maintanance and good bump compliance.

  • BB-92

The open standard of the non-threaded bottom bracket
of the BB-92 MTB frames brings 4 basic advantages –
improved strength of this part of the frame, higher durability,
decreased weight and easier installation by pressing the
bearing cups into the frame instead of threading them.

  • BB-86

The open standard of the non-threaded bottom bracket of
the BB-86 road and cx frames brings 4 basic advantages –
improved strength of this part of the frame, higher durability,
decreased weight and easier installation by pressing the
bearing cups into the frame instead of threading them.

  • Standard Threaded Bottom Bracket

This threaded bottom bracket technology is used in both
carbon and duralumin frames. All DEMA frames using this
technology feature a 68 mm wide bottom bracket housing
with a BSA thread (1.370 x 24 tpi), also referred to as an
“English” thread.

  • 3D Forged Dropouts

This technology offers the possibility to use heat processed
3D frame endings with interesting shapes. Their advantage,
compared to milled endings, is the increased strength of
the material.

  • 142x12mm Thru Axle

The 142×12 thru axle is a self-centering system that could
be installed easier than a quick release without any tools.
The larger diameter thru axle means stiffer, stronger rear
end of bike and less deflection of rear hub. It provides a
safer method to secure the wheel to the bike guaranteeing
against wheel ejection.

BOXER CARGO BIKES

Boxer- Made in the UK

At Boxer we pride ourselves on our commitment to make trikes in the UK, and to support our fellow British suppliers. It is all too easy these days to outsource to China and Taiwan for cycles components, but that is not what our brand is about.

We value the interaction between our team and our suppliers, and we enjoy our ‘cup of tea and biscuit’ based brainstorming sessions, staring at a pile of aluminium tubes and a pencil-drawn sketch. This is the way design and engineering should be: collaborative and spontaneous. It allows all parties involved to feel a sense of satisfaction and achievement when the finished product is revealed.

We rejoice in the fact that we are entering into a burgeoning international market for high quality, handmade British goods, alongside manufacturers like Morgan, Pashley and Rolls Royce, to name but a few. We don’t have any parts made of French polished walnut yet – but we are working on it!

History

Boxer Cycles are based in Poole, Dorset and use local manufacturers and suppliers wherever possible to ensure that our exacting standards are met and that we support the local and British economy. Whether we need laser-cut aluminium parts or hand-stitched upholstery panels, we try our best to get it done within a ten mile radius of our factory.

Boxer was founded by Jeremy Davies in 2013, years after he spotted the niche in the market for an innovative cargo trike design. Davies built his first roadworthy cargo tricycle in 2008, a self-confessed ‘Frankentrike’ called The Lobster, with huge 26″ knobbly tyres, a tilting parallelogram rack and torsion bar front suspension.

Whilst this design achieved Davies’ goal of being able to negotiate the rough tracks of Purbeck at speed, its cargo carrying capability was poor due to its tilting wheels and its excessive weight, which was caused by the overly complicated suspension system .

Davies next tried a non suspension cargo trike with 20″ front wheels and 26″ rear, which proved to be a great success for doing school runs, taking the kids and dog to the beach, or dodging lengthy queues when shopping. On its maiden voyage the Vélo Électrique E250 attracted two buyers and the rest is history.

Davies had no facilities to produce cargo trikes in volume and was still working a full time job, so reluctantly it was decided to import the key components from China. The quality of the Chinese trike frames was very good but they were let down by poor finishing, such as paint and fastenings. Wherever required, units were powder-coated and rebuilt in Purbeck to ensure that the trikes were of a suitable standard before delivery.

Vittoria G+ Tires Technology

The benefits of Graphene

1. Enormous surface area: 1 gram = around 2,630 m2 that can facilitate any chemical process
2. High mechanical resistance: approximately 200 times stronger than steel
3. High thermal conductibility: more than 2 times that of a diamond
4. Less density: is equal to half that of aluminium
5. High elasticity: equal to 6 times that of steel
6. High electrical conductibility, transparency, lightness, flexibility and mechanical resistance

Vittoria’s use of pristine Graphene

Vittoria only uses the most premium form of Graphene (pristine) in order to unlock the greatest possible improvements for all our products. This pristine Graphene Vittoria uses, in comparison to other forms of Graphene, offers 4 to 6 times greater improvements for the material it is applied to (carbon for wheels, rubber for tires). Vittoria decided to also become a shareholder in Directa Plus to stay connected to their research and development competence, which is needed to be a part of the most advanced material research.

Vittoria and Graphene IT’S and no compromise

With the application of Graphene in Vittoria wheels and tires, we have truly developed revolutionary products. Therefore, we have created a new product range called the “Intelligent Tire System” (IT’S).

Vittoria tires are now intelligent. IT’S compounds become harder and softer, depending on the needs of the rider. If the tire is rolling straight, the rubber is at its hardest and offers low rolling resistance. If the rider breaks, accelerates or corners, the compounds soften and offer significantly more grip. Prior to the advanced development of Graphene, there was always the requirement of choosing between optimizing, or aiming at, speed, grip, durability and puncture protection. Effectively, the introduction of Graphene allows for natural material barriers of rubber to be removed, which means that there is no longer the need for such compromises between speed, grip, durability and puncture resistance. All these features are now reaching their maximum possibilities.

Graphene explained

Graphene is a revolutionary material in the form of a very thin, nearly transparent sheet of pure carbon. In its extreme form it is as thin as a single atom (1/1,000,000,000th of a meter). Vittoria uses Directa Plus Graphene called G+, which is 2 to 8 atoms thin.

Csepel Company history

The successor of the Csepel bicycle manufactory, the Schwinn-Csepel Zrt. is the only company in Hungary which deals with all-inclusive bicycle production. The company was founded in 1928 by Weiss Manfréd, then as a result of the socialization it was operating as part of the Csepel Művek and produced the well-known Csepel bicycles.

Right after the end of the communist regime the factory had been privatised and run by several succeeding owners before falling into the hands of professional Hungarian investors with safe financial background. Consequently, customers have been provided with traditional Csepel bicycles of high quality produced under innovative conditions.

A number of former conventional bicycles have been refreshed to some extent according to the requirements of modern times, nevertheless some old-school types are still produced which evoke the early models. In addition, several “modern” bicycles are made, such as the popular trekking, mountain and road-race bikes. Currently, more than 50 different models of bicycles are manufactured in Csepel, and every year another 5-10 types are expected to be launched.

The bicycles traditionally get to the customers through an extended retailer network. Our professional experience gained for years is put to good use in designing bicycles for everyday use as in case of bicycles produced for Magyar Posta (Hungarian Post Office Ltd., Határőrség (Office of Border Wardens), MOL (Hungarian Oil and Gas Company Plc.

Schwinn-Csepel Zrt. aims to offer customers all-inclusive service, therefore an excellent professional service network operates at our company, ensuring the continuous supply of Schwinn-Csepel bicycle parts. In order to make the product range complete, we offer fitness equipment for home use, as well as a whole set of electric bicycles for those who prefer light exercise but still long for exploring the nature.

Csepel mission

We are devoted to promote environmentally friendly transport both on domestic and international markets. According to this our company takes part at events which intend to satisfy the needs of a traditional, family-centered community. Additionally, encouraging sports is one of our missions. We desire to help people to change their lifestyles in order to have a better state of health and physical condition. To support this idea Schwinn-Csepel Zrt. produces high quality bicycles for reasonable price to provide opportunity for all ages to enjoy the magnificent experience of cycling.

Early Rider - Bespoke Premium Kids Bikes

early rider banner

We make bikes, the very best kids bikes.

I can't tell you exactly when we started off the top of my head, but I can tell why and I can tell you that we love what we do and wholeheartedly believe that it's our raison d'etre. But it's easy to make the best bike on the market right? We can all just throw money at the problem, surely? But then there's the rub, we can't - or at least we can't anymore than our customers can. What we do is try to make the very best bikes accessible to the most people possible. Simple. It's a battle we can't win but it's one we fight passionately and I'm pretty sure we're the best at it too.

AR_carbon_handlebars_grande.jpg
Belt_1_grande.jpg
Mudguard_grande.jpg
Saddle_grande.jpg

Well put it this way, we've certainly cut enough steel and cut out enough middle men to be the best. If guile and persuasion fail to find us the right part or the workable price - we'll make it ourselves before thinking about compromise. The pedals, saddles, cranks, sprockets, stems, belt tensioners, hubs, axles- all ours, they are all bespoke and each an illustration of our commitment. Others may find it difficult to justify this investment in time and tools, but we don't because we are setting out with the lofty ambition of making bikes that inspire a lifetime as well as last one.

That, and the fact we're talking about a kids first bike - a pretty worthwhile consideration in our book too.

Riese und Müller - German To It's Core, Now In Ireland

We are happy to introduce Riese und Müller in Dublin, Ireland.

riese and muller

Company history

From parents’ garage to the world stage of the bike industry: it all began with a good idea and the Hesse Innovation Prize 1993. Today the Riese & Müller premium brand is well known from Japan to Europe and the USA.

Phase 1: The Early Years 1993 – 1996

Since studying engineering at Darmstadt Technical University at the end of the 80s, Markus Riese and Heiko Müller have been friends. They were both already keen cyclists as well as gifted amateur inventors. Modifying bikes and developing their first ideas for products, that’s how they spent their afternoons and evenings. Nothing more than a hobby until 1992, when Markus had a revolutionary idea for a completely new folding principle. A full suspension, folding bike, whose suspension pivot points are the same as the folding joints. The Birdy: a completely new, comfortable bike, which you can take with you everywhere and which has nothing in common with the folding bikes of the 1970s.

In April 1993, Heiko read about the “Hesse Innovation Prize” in the newspaper. In only ten days and nearly as many nights, Markus and Heiko built a prototype out of aluminum. Calling the bike the Birdy, they won a special prize. In 1993, operating from an improvised stand, they introduced themselves to the bicycle manufacturing world as Riese & Müller at the two most important bike trade fairs in Europe, Intercycle in Cologne and Eurobike in Friedrichshafen

The next years were spent on further developing the Birdy, starting to think about production and looking for capital. At Eurobike 1994, Markus and Heiko had a new prototype on display. “I’ll build that for you – I want to sell it!” With these words from the Taiwanese bike manufacturer, George Lin, Riese & Müller became a real business. Markus traveled shortly afterward to Taiwan to discuss the details with George and it was clear that both parties shared a commitment to high quality. It was quickly agreed that the Birdy would be produced in Taiwan. From June 1995, the Birdy was officially on sale in Germany, Japan and the USA. A great start in business for the two engineers from Darmstadt.

Phase 2: the years of further development 1997 – 2007

But the Birdy was just the start. Marko and Heiko have plenty more ideas for exciting bike concepts. Inspired by the mountain bike boom, they are convinced that full-suspension bikes, also called ‘Fullys’, fitted with 26” tires, are the ideal vehicles for a comfortable ride. The slogan ‘Full suspension for bikes’ would become reality. In 1997, Avenue and Culture are the first models of the new comfort bike range and they are joined in 1998 by the sporty Delite. They receive a rapturous reception from a demanding public. Riese & Müller becomes a brand for people who think bicycles matter.

They value high quality, durability and creativity. In particular, the distinctive Riese & Müller look wins more and more admirers. Thanks to more and more concentration on product development, the range of models grows constantly and they look to innovative concepts. For example, the Gemini comes on the market: a cargo bike with integrated forward child seat. Or the Equinox ‘armchair bike’ with its comfortable back rest. Riese & Müller realize the time is not yet right for some ideas. Nonethless, the company retains its youthful and innovative character.

Phase 3: The new mobility 2008 – the future

People, especially in urban areas, realize more and more the importance of living in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and responsible manner. Mobility and bike use are changing. The Birdy folding bike fits into our life just as well today as it did then. E-Bikes are becoming more important. In 2008, Riese & Müller unveils its first E-bike models and the success of these electric-assisted bikes is enormous. The Riese & Müller principle of full-suspension bikes with 26” tires is the perfect base for comfortable and safe E-bikes. Riese & Müller focus on new areas and invest in innovative E-bikes and E-bike technologies. Perfect workshop service, trouble-free technology and the best ride possible are new priorities at Riese & Müller. The goal: to become market leader in the premium E-bike sector. This means the company face great challenges but are part of a fast-growing market.

Inventiveness

Riese & Müller builds not just bicycles. Behind every bike there is a master plan.

At Riese & Müller, we call it ‘inventiveness‘. The English word means an abundance of ideas and inventions or it can also mean creativity. That’s why Riese & Müller exists. It’s what we are about today and in the future. ‘Inventiveness’ at Riese & Müller comprises three main elements:

1. permanent optimization of existing products and product details

2. constant innovative thinking about new products and applications and

3. continual experimentation on completely new concepts for the future.

All three elements are firmly established in our daily work. That means we are constantly working on 1., 2. and 3. For us, this approach to work is a motivation and security at the same time. We make our customers happy with perfect products. With our experiments and playing around, we stay innovative, young and different at the same time.
