We think the Wisper 806 is one of the best value folding electric bikes available and easily outperforms anything else in it's class, it looks smart too!
Wipser offer two battery options both of which are compatible across all their electric bike models.
The benefit of the 575 Wh battery is exactly as it's name would suggest, providing an additional range of up to 75 miles for a single charge. In addition to this the 575 Wh battery also has another trick up it's sleeve.
To understand what this will be we need to appreciate that a rechargeable battery will naturally lose charge over a period of time, which if left unattended can damage the battery and seriously impair it's ability to hold a charge, in a worst case scenario rendering completely useless. For this reason it's recommended that any rechargeable battery should be 'topped up' regularly to keep it in optimum condition, it's not tricky but with life being busy it's often overlooked.
To overcome this the 575 Wh battery has a feature Wisper have named their 'deep sleep mode'. Once a Wisper 575Wh battery has been fully charged it's not necessary to recharge it again for several months, or for example, over the winter. We recommend the battery is recharged every 6 months, however with a full charge it will be safe for up to a year. To manually put the battery into deep sleep mode simply press the LED button on the rear of the battery for 10 seconds. If the battery is not manually put into deep sleep mode and the battery falls below 29V, deep sleep will be activated automatically after 24 hours of non-use to coserve the battery condition. The battery will automatically wake up when connected to a Wisper bike and the bike is switched on.
The 575 Wh batteries cost a little more, but with their quality Samsung cells, additional range and addition Deep Sleep Mode feature safeguarding the life of the battery we think they represent a good value upgrade option over the standard battery.
The primary difference between the SE and Torque models would be the enhanced motor and sensor system fitted to the Torque model, with additional upgrades across the bike as defined in the chart below. Note the presence of the torque sensor on the 'Torque' models, this makes a significant difference in the way the bike delivers it's power, let us tell you why...
With the addition of a torque sensor (as featured on the Torque models, but not the SE) this allows the bike to know exactly how hard you are pressing on the pedals and tailor the input of the motor to optimally deliver power to the motor to best assist you in different conditions.
The benefit of the Wisper Torque sensor can most be felt when setting off, especially on an incline. The software in the controller will recognise that the bike is stationary, so when the pedals are pushed down the bike will know the rider needs maximum assistance to get them going. It very much feels as if you have twisted a throttle. When the bike gets moving the cadence sensor recognises you are on the move so will gradually reduce the power. The rider will not feel the gradual reduction, the whole experience will feel very natural.
In addition to boosting the power to the motor when you need it, the system can also economise on the battery power allowing the Torque models to provide up to 40% additional range on a single charge over an equivalent bike fitted with cadence sensor only.
So all things considered, the Wisper SE bikes are incredibly competitively priced and are undoubtedly one of the best electric bikes that money can buy within their price bracket, but if your budget can stretch then the Wisper Torque models offer a significant gain in every day performance.
In addition the throttle provides a 'walk' feature, allowing you to power the bike up to 4 mph as you walk alongside it.
